Rococo to Rock n’ Roll

I come from a family of folk musicians and grew up listening to my large family playing guitar and singing harmonies at family gatherings.

I began studying flute in high school with Ruth Giles, professor at Minnesota State University at Mankato/Gustavis Adolphus College. I completed my degree in Flute Performance at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities studying with Julia Bogorad Kogan, Adam Kuenzel and Keith Underwood. I also completed my Masters Degree at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities n Flute Performance studying with Julia Bogorad Kogan and Immanuel Davis.

After graduating, I started an all girl punk rock band called Eufio. I played guitar and bass, sang, and wrote songs. This experience opened me up to improvisation and writing music, rounding out my classical music education.

You can read more about me in my interview in the Mount Olivet School of Music newsletter.

I’ve been a teacher for over 15 years and I love it. I get no greater pleasure than helping students of all ages learn the benefits of smart practice and the joys of music. I teach from the classical tradition, and also emphasize improvisation and composition to give my students a well rounded learning experience. I believe that you should play music you love, that there is great music in every genre, and the flute has a place in every genre.
